alan and i have been watching a lot of documentaries about the universe. tonight i had a huge breakthrough. i'm pretty embarrassed about it actually. i kind of have a reputation for being pretty into science. so it is even more embarrassing. here it is...
see how there is a bright light in the middle of the galaxy there? guess what. it is not the sun. The planets in our solar system are not orbiting around that bright light. our sun is just one of the specks of light. that means that there could be billions of other planets JUST in our galaxy. i wish i could express how hard i did not know that. i thought that the milky way was kind of "ours." But really, we are it's. i would also like to apologize if i have ever corrected you about something. you have no reason to ever believe anything i may think or say.

Jessica and I went through a "String Theory" phase when we were dating, it was a good time. So now that you are an astronomy genius, which is bigger the Galaxy, or the Universe?
Nathan and I have been watching, "Through the Wormhole" with Morgan Freeman. It is amazing! It talks about String Theory, black holes, dark matter, etc. I agree that it is CRAZY to think how small Earth is in comparison to the rest of the galaxy. It's going to be awesome when new planets are discovered!
(p.s. I think it is awesome you and Alan watch cool documentaries together. I love that Nathan enjoys all think scientific)
and each of those bright specks in that first picture (that are NOT part of the milky way) are probably all galaxies themselves....each with billions of stars in them. it is all craziness. and we are very tiny.
Did you start watching that nova series by Brian Greene?! It is mind blowing!!
